Hell.
It’s a completely Human concept. The concept of a realm of eternal torture, to which you are sent depending on the whims of one deity or another, is something only found in Human fiction. And it’s not an isolated occurrence. Almost every human culture since the dawn of humanity itself has had it in one form or another. Fire and brimstone, unrelenting cold, devils with pitchforks and other things only seen in the vilest of human nightmares were to be found in these spaces.
A lot of species have been found to believe that there is nothing beyond the veil of mortality, or they believe in a spectral realm where ancestors await them once they’ve finished their worldly existence.
But only Humans have been found to believe in Hell.
And the worst part is that once you make a human lose grasp of the thin shackles of morality and civilization, the crazed madness that spawned the concept of Hell may very well break loose.
It has been seen in numerous occasions in Human history, where this vile darkness spewed forth from good and bad humans alike.
The concentration camps of the Second World War are merely one example of this darkness that lurks in all of them.
Look to the Humans. See their civilized demeanor and wholehearted passion. See their great works of art and their friendly smiles. They are all teeming on the brink of the abyss to Hell itself.
Many have made the mistake in thinking that they can make the Humans bend knee in face of their terror.
They believed they could make the Humans falter and flee, that they could humble the humans in the face of their power.
They made the mistake of thinking they could put fear in the heart of Humanity. They were wrong.
There is nothing you can do to humanity they have not already done to themselves.
And by whatever power you worship, don’t make that attempt. Because then Humanity will show you the true meaning of the concept no one else has managed to grasp.
They will show you Hell.
